As the Moodys at last prepare to move to New York, Becca tells Hank about an intimate coming of age experience she had. Hank’s stunned when Mia (MADELINE ZIMA) shows up at the house unannounced, in town with her slimy boyfriend / manager PAUL (JAMES FRAIN) for a book signing. Hank fails to prevent Mia and Paul from hatching a devious publicity stunt, forcing Hank to finally share the long-buried heartbreaking secret with Karen.

Sue Collini (KATHLEEN TURNER) gives Charlie a career opportunity of a lifetime, but Charlie must confront the fact that he might be losing Marcy for good.

Karen drags Hank to an end of the semester goodbye luncheon at Felicia’s. Hank realizes he’s walked into a hornet’s nest as Felicia, Jackie and Jill all gang up on him. The Hank bashing is interrupted when Richard Bates, the novelist / professor Hank replaced at the college, pays a surprise visit. Hank’s none too pleased to learn that Bates and Karen share some intimate history. Finally, a drunken Dean Koons storms the lunch in full Civil War re-enactment regalia, challenging Hank to a sloppy duel that ends in catharsis. Marcy and Charlie get an offer on their house the same day their divorce papers arrive. While hooking up once more for old time’s sake, Charlie has a nasty sex accident and Marcy discovers his new tramp stamp.

Hank takes Charlie out for a night of drinking after the agent loses his job, but their revelry hits a rough-and-tough spot when they wind up in the middle of a convenience-store armed robbery. Meanwhile, Karen, Becca and Marcy enjoy a girls’ night out.

Becca and Chelsea (Ellen Davis Woglom) get involved in a brawl on campus, which results in one of Hank’s sexual dalliances being discovered. Meanwhile, Charlie jeopardizes his job when he attempts to get Marcy away from his client Rick Springfield (as himself).

Hank is kept up all night after a surprise visit by Jackie (Eva Amurri) and two of her stripper colleagues from the club. He’s really sent scrambling when both Jill (Diane Farr) and Felicia (Embeth Davidtz) show up at his doorstep the next morning before the trio have departed. To complicate things ever further, Dean Koons (Peter Gallagher) also drops by, and Charlie arrives with a verbally abusive Rick Springfield (as himself)

Fearing he may have ruined things (again) with Karen, Hank plans to cool things down with the campus hotties, but true to form winds up getting burned by his amorous pursuits. Meanwhile, Charlie scrambles to keep the agency’s top client (Peter Fonda) from leaving the fold; and Becca chastises her father for the horrible role model he’s become.
